The Best Dishes Downtown as a Vegetarian

Lots of places downtown have delicious vegetarian options that don’t skimp on taste and flavor! I’m not a fan of ordering a chicken salad and skipping the chicken. Who wants to pay for protein you won’t eat? Here are a few of my favorite stops and dishes downtown as a vegetarian!

1.Skies 322

They do not have a specific vegetarian menu, but all vegan options are clearly marked on the menu. My choice off the dinner menu: Vegetable Curry. I also like to hit up the appetizer menu! Some of my top picks are the Greek Bruschetta, Sauteed Mushrooms, and Caprese Lavash.  There’s also salad options including the Beech Salad or Winter Salad. Tonight, I went with Caprese Lavash. We also shared a strawberry, basil cocktail and the bread was a delight.  My favorite thing about Skies 322 is sitting by the window - I love the urban feel.  Our server was awesome and it was a lovely experience.

2. Toasted Frog

Who says you can’t have dessert for dinner? Even though The Frog has many vegetarian options - it was National Pie day when I visited - so for dinner I picked the Pear Pie. In all honesty, it was the day before National Pie Day - but it was still a delicious way to celebrate! I highly recommend this either for dinner or as dessert!

3. Harry’s Steakhouse

I understand it may feel a little silly, visiting a steak house as a vegetarian, but I knew they had options and heard a rumor that cauliflower steaks will one day appear on the menu. We started with Margaritas - the perfect drink to celebrate the early arrival of spring and it was delightful.  Their bread was a great combination of hard on the outside, but soft on the inside. I went with the portobello mushroom, which is different from the normal mushroom cap found in ND, it's a bit more tender and the reduction just tops it off perfectly. For our side, we went with the Truffle Mac and Cheese, well, because it’s the weekend. The truffle is not overpowering but makes this dish stand out. The space is perfectly curated and the staff is friendly, without being over the top.  Another delightful evening.

4. Toasted Frog #2

Full confession - we ate half the pickles before I remembered a photo! Sitting at the bar is such a different experience at the Frog. It feels a bit more laid back and it’s entertaining to watch the bar staff create their cocktails. I also recommend the back bar, less conversation, but also entertaining. It’s definitely a requirement to get the fried cheesy pickles - but rightfully so, they are delicious! For dinner, I had blackened brussels sprouts with mushrooms. The dish was great! The chips gave it a nice crunch and it had a lot of flavor.
